The subsidised lock scheme is open to students and staff at the University of Manchester only. Before buying a lock you must either have already registered your bike on the University system or contact Ian Halliwell via email ( ian.halliwell@manchester.ac.uk ) to arrange an appointment to attend a registration event. Once you have made your purchase an email will be sent out to you giving details of where and when to attend to have the security marking added to your bike frame and to collect your lock.
PLEASE BE AWARE – To qualify for the discounted lock you must register your bike on the free University scheme and have the additional security labels adhered to your bike frame, LOCKS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED UNLESS THIS HAS BEEN DONE. For details please see Read More.
Detailed Description
A Bike Register anti tamper proof label with a unique serial number is added to the frame of your bike in a highly visible location. The owner/cycle details are recorded and entered onto a University database to enable our security officers to check bikes.
The relevant information is also entered onto the Bike Register database. The Police check this database when they come into possession of stolen/recovered property.
All you have to do to qualify for a discounted lock is register your bike for free on the University scheme, this would normally cost £10 if done direct with Bike Register.
For further details of how to qualify for the discounted lock please visit the Crime Reduction Website or contact Ian Halliwell on 0161 275 2230 or email ian.halliwell@manchester.ac.uk
From the scheme launch date those who will be eligible for a subsidised lock will be the following:

All students and staff who have either had their bike overtly marked with a UoM number/Bike Register label and/or registered their bike.
